If you have problems in understanding search engines, here are a few things you should know about them.

Search Engines types.

Let's talk first about search engines named "crawlers" like Google. This type of search engines are using robots which examine the content of the websites periodically. They read the title of your page, the body and other elements from your website to make an impression about it. A better impression, a better place into the search results.

The second type of search engine is the one where the examination are manually made by real people. One of this kind is Dmoz. The people examine your website and they decide if it is valuable enough and it should be listed or not.

The third type is a "hybrid" like MSN. This type of search engine function in the both ways mentioned above.

How does search engines make the listings?

All search engines are using they own rules. Even these rules are secret there are some very good opinions from SEO (Search engine optimization) experts.

First of all we need to know which are the best keywords to use when promoting our business. These keywords are the doors to our websites. How often we can use a keyword? The keyword need to exist in our title? That keyword can be found in the footer of our page? All these factors have a well defined purpose in our website.

Another way to establish our website quality is its popularity. If no one links to your website this mean you are not important. If your competitor has over 100 links to his website he is much more popular than you are. Links to your website are more valuable if they are from a similar website, a website from the same domain as your website.

Clicking rate is also a way to determinate your listing position in search engines. If you are at the top and no one click on your website this mean you don't deserve that place. In this case your website will probably go down a few places.

There are many factors to determine the place in search engines listings and all of them should be taken into consideration.

Website search engine submitting

Almost all search engines will index your website, but you can't be sure this will happen or when. You have to manually submit your website to be sure it is seen and indexed. We suggest you when you submit your website, to submit only the 2-4 most important pages. The rest, will be found as well but this way you will be sure the most important pages are taken into consideration.

Check your listings periodically

Be sure your website is indexed and check this periodically. When you change your pages resubmit them to be reindexed. For a better indexing of your pages, you should always have a sitemap for your website.
