Any new website owner who is worth his salt will quickly come to appreciate the pivotal role that search engines such as Google will play in the ultimate success in their website and so it is vital that you as the website owner are aware of the factors that will expedite this process somewhat.
First and foremost, organization is absolutely vital to your the speed in which your site is indexed, and so if you have a cogent, logical, well planned structure for your website's pages with a liberal presence of decent backlinks which are relevant to your website and which actually work....then you will be stacking the odds in your favor. The converse it should be noted, is equally true.
A common novice mistake is that by manually submitting the details of a website, they think that this will help them jump the queue quite significantly. Whilst there can no denying of the fact that they manual submission does speed up the index process, the benefit rendered is so minuscule that it simply is not worth the hassle. Your first priority should be to ensure that you focus solely upon the acquisition and proper stating of your backlinks.
Perhaps if we understood the process involved in the index of a website’s pages, we can have a better appreciation for what it is that we are required to do.
Google (and all search engines) make use of specialized programs referred to as “bots” (also known as webcrawlers) which will search through all the websites stored on internet servers across the world and then return the webpage to the Google server for indexation in the database. The full textual content of a website will be stored in the database and the details will then be sorted by alphabetical means and pertinent information related to the page in question will be stored alongside it.
The next step of the puzzle is the page ranking of a webpage, because the page rank determines the actual value that is apportioned to a website. At the risk of grossly oversimplifying the process, the higher the Page Rank, the higher up it will appear in the index. This means that whenever an internet user searches for a particular term, if your website has a page rank of #1 then it will be the first website to appear in the search results.
Even it’s more up to the search engines how many of your pages will be added in their index, there are a few things you can do to increase that number and speed.
First of all, to get more of your website’s pages indexed by search engines you should have an accessible site with clean and valid code. If the crawlers try to access your website and some pages doesn’t load or they return different type of errors, than you shouldn’t expect that those pages to get indexed.
A good navigation through your website is also critical. You website should be well structured and easy to navigate, so all of your pages can be reached. It’s good to avoid using Flash menus for navigation or complex javascript menus. Search engines can’t read flash and may have problem with some javascripts as well.
To make your pages even more accessible to search engines, you should create a sitemap for your website and submit your sitemap to the search engines. This way, the search engines will know about the existence of all of your website’s pages.
Visiting all of your pages, doesn’t mean that search engines will also include them in their index. For this the pages should have some value.
The value of your pages is given by several factors, but most important of this factors are the inbound links to your pages.
One of the fastest method to get your pages discovered and indexed by the search engines is the use of social networking websites like Twitter, FaceBook, Digg and many others.
This kind of websites are crawled by search engines several times a day and finding links in there to your website’s articles will get the crawlers to your website as well. With this method you can reach the performance to index some of your pages in minutes.
Another suggestion is to frequently add more content to your website. The more frequently you add content, the more frequently search engines visit your website and index you pages.
It's good to have a website with new content and new pages created everyday.
