Ready for print templates. Printing settings. How to set a document for print.

When you print a document the main thing you should know is that what you see on your monitor has nothing to do with comes out from the printer. I know is hard to believe, this is true.

First of all, you should know that the size of the document you see on your monitor is different than the printed size of your product. You can't take measures, like some people do, with a ruler from the monitor display. The size of your document should be set from the software you are using for creating the product. You can set it in inches, millimeters, centimeters, etc. You will notice that the document shown on your monitor is very big, but don't worry, when printed it will be in the right size.

The dpi (dots per inch) resolution of your document should be set to the standard 300 dpi value like must printers require. If you set the dpi setting lower than 300, you image will look awful.

What else you should know when creating graphics for print is that the colors on your monitor are totally different than the printed colors. To be more clear, monitors displays the images in RGB mode (Red, Green, Blue) and the printers in CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black). The color gamut for the printer is much smaller, so many of your RGB color tones can't be reproduced by the printer. That's why you should create your document in CMYK mode before starting the work on the design.

Regarding the layout and the right size of your document you should know about the existence of a bleed area (the area which ensure the ink coverage the whole printed product) and a safe area (the area where you should avoid placing any text). So, when you create your document, you should make it with 3mm to 5mm larger (depending of its size), because of the bleed area.
