Effective promotion of your website is a crucial process indeed and can ultimately spell the difference between the long term success (or failure) of your website. A website is just like a physical business in that it must rely upon marketing and advertising in order to drum up business, establish a foothold in the market niche it is involved in and furthermore, actually make a connection with the consumers themselves. Paid banner campaigns is a type of internet marketing tool, although a degree of caution must be exercised when it comes to a paid campaign.
Paid banners are a controversial subject in regards to the internet, for many people regard them as a major drain of money and time, others are convinced as to their effectiveness. Given that paid banners account for 50% of the total US advertising revenue generated by the internet, it is plain to see then that they are a potentially very lucrative asset indeed.
Many people condemn paid banners on the grounds that they do not seem to generate a significant amount of leads or sales and therefore are not worth the effort. However, where the REAL bonus of paid banners lies is the raising of awareness of the website that they are promoting, as they allow a user to instantly see at a moments glance, the motif and logo of a given website.
In short, paid banners can be summed up in the following way: they can be extremely profitable and beneficial....the catch being that they are most appropriate for websites that are sales orientated and where a single sale would generate a substantial amount of profit. The reason for this is that given that the ratio of number of clicks versus the number of clicks that result in sales is atrociously low, the high profit margin justifies the initial outlay. Therefore, even if a website gets very few clicks, that one click that results in a final sale will still allow the company to make a profit.
However, it is not enough for online stores with high value/high mark up goods to succeed, they must already a fairly significant amount of traffic as well to reap the maximum amount of benefits for their efforts. It is for this reason then that paid banners are now slowly in decline and are being replaced by other, more universal advertising models which can benefit just about any business model rather than the privileged few.
