Make a transparent gif . Easiest way to make a gif with no background in Photoshop.

In this Photoshop tutorial, you will learn how to make a transparent gif. Just follow the steps of this free Photoshop tutorial and you will see how easy is to make a gif with no background .

To start creating a new transparent gif from the beginning go to File and click on New. Set the name of your file and it's sizes. On the Background Contents field select Transparent. When finished click Ok.

This will start a new Photoshop document without a background.

In my example the transparent gif will consists of a text without a background. Of course, you can do anything you want to obtain the desired transparent gif image.

When your images is finished and ready for Save go to File again and click on Save for web. This will not only save your gif with no background but will also optimize your image for a fast loading. After you click the Save for web button, a new window will open. You can set here how do you wish your image to be exported. As you can notice in my image, in this new window you have some options in the right part. In the first field select Gif. This is the type of your exported file. You have some other options here for better optimization performances, like number of colors, lossy, dither, etc. You can play with these settings to obtain a well optimized image with good quality the same time. Make sure you have the Transparency field checked. Otherwise, your gif will have a background. Depending of the background color you will wish to place your transparent gif on, you can set the Matte color. This will make the transparent edges of your gif image to look well and smooth for that type of background. If you will place your gif image on a white background, the matte should be set to white, if you wish to place it on a black background, you should set the matte black. The same thing for any other colors.

In my example I prepared the transparent gif file for future use on a dark red color. Setting the Matte to the same color as the background it will be placed on will give your image a nice and smooth look.

When all the Saving settings are done hit the Save button. Set the location where you want to save your gif file.
